Cookie windows, payout holds and minimums
Fifteen programs state a cookie window. Five use 90 days, three use 60, three use 30, two use 120, one uses 180 and one is lifetime. Payout terms vary. HeyGen, for example, pays within the first 3 days of each month with a $100 minimum.
Hold first commissions 30–60 days so refunds clear. AI apps have a median refund rate of 4.2%, against 3.5% for other apps (RevenueCat via TechCrunch).
What rules do most programs set?
Paid ads are the main restriction. OpusClip bans affiliate links "in any paid media", and HeyGen bars paid search and self-referrals and requires 5K+ followers. There's a reason: 96% of fraud flags in FirstPromoter's data come from paid-ad traffic.
How do you pick a rate without hurting margin?
Use this rule: if your gross margin is under the commission rate plus 10 points, pay 20% for 12 months or a flat bounty after the customer has paid for 30–60 days.
Worked example (illustrative numbers): a $40-a-month plan at 25% for 12 months pays the affiliate $10 a month, or at most $120 per customer in year one. If gross margin is 30%, that is under 35% (25 plus 10), so drop to 20% or a bounty.
Cap the duration too. AI-native products under $50 a month keep just 23% of revenue after a year, per ChartMogul data (Growth Unhinged). A 12-month cap is affordable and still competitive. For the full launch process, see how to start an affiliate program.
Methodology and sources
We opened each program's public affiliate page on October 6, 2026 and recorded the advertised rate, duration, cookie window and platform. "Not stated" means the page didn't say. The median uses the 15 programs that pay a percentage, at entry tier (beehiiv 50%, Smartlead 15%, Fireflies 30%). Flat-fee and first-payment programs are excluded. Programs change often, so we recheck this table quarterly. Spot an error? Tell us through our contact page.
